Let me start by saying that anyone who has an opinion on this, pro, con or undecided, please feel free to send it to me at clarkweb@usit.net ; I will do my best to post it here as quickly as possible; Likewise, with relevant links.

I am one of those "paranoid crazies" the news media is always warning you about; as a ex-member of the US military, I am aware that the BATF drizzletroopers at Waco, TX knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that firing "harmless tear gas" into the Waco compound would light the place up. You see, the Cultists, having had their electricity cut off, were using kerosene lanterns for lights(which was commonly known); using assault vehicles to knock the wall down, would have of course probably spilled some kerosene, knocked over the lanterns; tell me what you think firing a flame-emitting device into a wooden building soaked with kerosene will do?

But that's old news. stop dwelling on the past. live in the present. stop being such a paranoid.

Right.

I can see the person who wrote this viewpoint stating that, with possibly a little sneer in their voice...But I do NOT see them evaluating the ROT situation with a clear mind and without preconceptions.

Lets consider a little scenario (make a effort to be objective on this, ok? pretend I'm talking about someplace in Europe, or something): There is a small country that was conquered by a larger country, over a 100 years ago; The larger country basically just declared (In a declaration that was illegal by their own laws) that the smaller country was now owned by them; In order to persuade the smaller country to go along with this, they were assured that they would maintain their local government, they would just be called in name a part of the larger country. you can guess the rest, the larger country marches its troops in, ousts the smaller countries government, and replaces it with a military dictatorship. They have a unsuccessful revolution against the larger country which leaves the populace devastated. But now, its the 1990's; supposedly, The rule of law, instead of the rule of might, has spread across the civilized areas of the world. Now, at this time, the people of the smaller country know they SHOULD be a sovereign nation, and over 2 thirds of the citizens of the area generally recognized as The smaller country agree with them. What do you think will happen? What steps should they take?

Should they...Appeal to the UN?

Should They...Appeal to the State Department?

Should They...Place their case before the people of the region?

OK, lets assume they have done All the legal steps possible for what is basically a government-in-exile to attract International attention, and a fair review of their case. The larger Country decree's that the legal (by International Law) steps that the smaller countries government have been taking, are, in fact, illegal .The leaders of the smaller countries government is placed under arrest, or attempts are made to do so.

The larger country is pretty much fed up with this situation, so they start rounding up any member of the Government-in-exile that they can; who are placed under more-or-less indefinite arrest, and all their possessions seized; They step up their Propaganda campaign, to prevent any of their own citizens from feeling any form of sympathy with the smaller country, but they might as well not bother, as most of them are too jaded to care about anything anyway. However, the Government-in-exile is not all taken; some members escape. They are faced with a decision: To accept that they are in error, and recant their position (and try to survive under the larger governments regime, which violates even its own laws). Or to (since all legal means have been exhausted) actively prepare for a confrontation with the Larger Governments agents.

OK, hold on for a minute. I can see you starting to look at me kinda funny, but you agreed to think of these people being right, OK? I'll be done in a minute.

The larger country is, of course, aware of all this; they have dealt with such situations before, if not on such a scale (not 100's, but tens of thousands of revolutionaries). They can be pretty sure of the tactics used in the past on smaller groups working this time. They 1) shut down the revolutionaries contact with the outside world, to prevent them gaining assistance, or sympathy from others. They 2) Issue propaganda specifically tailored to make this group linked in the peoples minds with other crazy/cultist groups. They 3) Move their Elite Troops into the area (never mind that it is a violation of their OWN laws to do so; THEY know who is going to be writing the "official" history) and contain the rebels. They 4) wait until such time as the rebels either are starved into submission, or are provoked into attacking (If the troops on hand aren't enough, the mere incidence of the Rebels attack is enough to bring in whatever force is necessary to win). They 5) Make more propaganda releases, explaining the incident (The people of the larger nation, not wanting to think of themselves as the bad guys, will believe whatever they are told).

OK, I'm done ranting. Crazy, huh? Of course, the story I just told has nothing whatsoever to do with the ROT situation, its just a little fiction for your amusement. But still, I thank you for reading, and I will be glad to post whatever thoughts you may have on the situation; I do however insist on posting only 1 letter with the contents "But, they, they are just WRONG!", all right?

And, don't worry, I won't tell Anybody who sent the message, unless you expressly inform me that that is your wish; My last name IS Travis, I AM directly related, and I'm proud of it.
