VRML: NOW
![]()
What are we working on now? Here are a few highlights:
- Unfortunately, trying to duplicate CHACO's work; they have a beautiful combination TELNET, VRML, and WWW browser, pretty much expressly designed for use with MUDS (multi user dimension, usually); but as we can not get them to tell us how the darn thing discriminates between information types, we're trying to build our own.
- Designing a VMUD (virtual multi user dimension) that concurrently streams VRML2 code, audio, text, and positioning data for the win'95/win NT platform. At present, the VMUD looks, and kinda sounds, like a low-res wolfenstein played on a 8088 when in actuality it requires P200's on a LAN; but it does NOT require a massive central server to keep track of things, it just pulls world data from a shared resource file, at 1kps.
- Designing a stereoscopic browser for use with VR headgear.
- Getting a decent Internet connection! (hard to do in Clarksville, TN without wads of cash) Hopefully, we'll be able to divert more funds to this soon.
- Exploring the possibilities of using Worlds, Inc.'s excellent alphaworld software (one of the reasons we need the better connection) for graphics; it's too early to tell if the rendering engine can be derailed to a non-centralized source.
