Project Alert

At present, there is not really a efficient, rapid means of distributing information to local law enforcement agencies in the event that a child is declared missing. We are working on a two-layered program to remedy this situation.

The first layer is a fax-distribution system. The initial concept is to provide a simple stand-alone computer system with fax capabilities; in the event that a child is declared missing, a parent could send a single fax containing a B&W image of the child and pertinent information concerning the circumstances; the system would then sequentially forward the FAX to all law enforcement agencies in a outward expanding circle, up to a pre-specified distance.

The second layer is to pre-contact area establishments that provide scanning / copying services and request that they provide free scanning and faxing to Parents of missing children; the photograph scans could then be upload fairly easily to the various Missing children's agencies, and to Project Kidbase

We have contacted the designers of a "faceprint" database software company for a pre-release copy of software that allows you to create a database of faces from standard photographs.

This could be of invaluable assistance in quite a few missing persons cases. This particular project would have too wait until a group with a actual budget came along, or until we have more funds to to invest in it.

Envision this: we request ALL schools to provide us with class pictures; we then place the various "faces" into our faceprint database.

Law enforcement agencies could submit faces taken from child pornography, which we could possibly identify using the faceprint database.

With periodic checks, spousal abduction cases could possibly be solved by finding the child when the abducting parent enrolls the child in a new school, and a class picture with the child's picture is submitted.

While it's a little far-fetched, you could even place a camera in a busy shopping mall, and scan for faces that have been declared missing.
