Mars

01/04/2004 Check out the new spirit shots

At a friends request, I decided to do a little something on the face on Mars. I originally thought it was a trick of light.

Now I'm not sure.

I started out looking at the original Viking shots; I have done enough work with image enhancement to see that most of the "construction marks" and angles claimed are mostly the result of pixilation when blowing up a image.

I'll post more details of what I've dome later; for now, some images.

Face35A72.gif (32381 bytes) The original Viking shot.
Face35tc.gif (33277 bytes) Using the above image, with a mirrored fill.
raw.gif (583613 bytes) The new JPL RAW image
RAW1.jpg (84623 bytes) My enhancement of the JPL RAW image, using a variety of tools.

And finally (for now) the first creation in my VRML face project (requires a VRML browser plugin or IE4 w/VRML 2.0)
